"I've been keeping an eye on it for a long time, and I took advantage of the holiday promotion to make the purchase," said Ms. Cui, who just placed an order for a combined washing and drying drum washing machine at an appliance store in Beijing's Daxing District. She told the reporter that the National Day promotion, coupled with the old-for-new subsidy, made the price very affordable.

During the National Day holiday, a series of promotional activities were actively carried out across the country to meet consumers' diverse shopping needs. Among them, the old-for-new policy for consumer goods became the main focus of the promotion.

The old-for-new policy continues to stimulate market vitality

During this year's National Day holiday, under the continuous efforts of policies such as old-for-new for home appliances and furniture, and the issuance of catering consumption vouchers, the Shanghai consumer market was particularly active. The auto "renewal" market is booming in both supply and demand

Data from the State Administration of Taxation's value-added tax invoices show that during the National Day holiday, the old-for-new subsidy policy lowered the threshold for consumers to purchase cars. Automakers introduced discounts, car purchase concessions, and car purchase gift packs, further boosting the auto market to a consumption boom. The national second-hand car sales volume increased by 65.9% year-on-year, the new car sales volume increased by 11.7% year-on-year, and the new energy car increased by 45.8% year-on-year.In Guangdong, the multi-layered car purchase subsidy优惠政策, combining "government + auto show + car manufacturers + car dealers," has further stimulated the car consumption market. In Jiangxi, the enthusiasm for car consumption is equally high. "Old-for-new not only promotes consumption but also promotes recycling. Specifically in the automotive field, the recycling of lithium batteries is a challenge, and old-for-new has ushered in the era of power battery recycling," said Pan Helin, a renowned economist and member of the Expert Committee on Information and Communication Economics of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. He suggested that as the policy deepens, the convenience of old-for-new and other preferential policies should be improved, encouraging businesses and consumers to make good use of the policies to achieve better results.

"At present, the supporting implementation details, funds, and policies for old-for-new consumer goods have been fully launched, and the retail volume of passenger cars has rebounded significantly, with the sales of home appliances turning from a decline to an increase. We need to increase the implementation of relevant policies to promote a continuous increase in commodity consumption," said Zheng Shanjie, the director of the National Development and Reform Commission, at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on October 8th.
